Week 6

Group Discussion Guide

Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He upholds the universe by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3), and He is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14). The surpassing greatness of knowing Him is worth giving up everything in this earthly life, that we would gain eternity with Him (Philippians 3:8).

Jesus clearly commanded us to go to all nations and make disciples. He promises to be with us always as we do His will.

“19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’” (Matthew 28:19-21).

He promises to be with us always as we do His will.

Reflect on your time this week and discuss the following questions with your community.

Discussion Questions

  • Were you faithful to pray each day this week and to fast together with the church on Tuesday? If the answer to either is “no,” share why with your community. Do not let guilt and shame take hold. The goal of these 40 days is not perfection in following the “rules”; it’s a communal attempt by the local church to beg Him in faith to sow vast numbers of seeds among the nations, that a great harvest would be reaped. Our foundation is God and His Word, and our goal is that God’s will would be done through us. This community is for you and with you. Rest in that knowledge, and take a moment to encourage one another, whether you have succeeded in what you set out to do or have fallen short of the goal this week. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

  • Is there anything still holding you back from being “all in” to take the gospel to the nations? How can your community help you work through any remaining questions or uncertainties? Ask God to provide what you need to answer the call He has given you, whether you will be a sender or goer.

  • How has your community changed over these last 40 days? What specific ways have you seen God work in you as you have sought Him in prayer and fasting? As a community, talk about next steps. How will you individually and collectively respond to God’s call to take the gospel to the nations? Pray for one another. Ask God for clarity and wisdom. Ask Him for boldness in moving forward. He is for you!

Lord God, truly You are the One True God, the Maker of heaven and earth. Thank You for loving every tongue, tribe, and nation You created. Thank You for inviting us into Your mission, that we might gain joy and increase our faith as we trust You and sacrifice to take the gospel to those who have not yet heard. Increase our unity and love for all the saints You have called to do this with us. We love You and affirm that we count everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
