Before you begin, take a few moments to quiet your mind and prepare your heart to receive God’s Word. Read the following passage at least twice, and then pray through the points below.
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Today's Prayer Points
- The Father has given Jesus all authority in heaven and on earth (28:18). Take a few moments to reflect on what that means for you and for us corporately as His followers. We follow Him who has all authority over everything in all of creation. How amazing that we get to pray in the name of the One with that kind of authority! Thank God for that gift.
- Jesus commanded His followers to go make disciples of all nations, to baptize those new disciples, and then to teach them all He taught and commanded (28:19-20). Jesus didn’t recommend we go, or give that command to only some followers; every follower of Christ has been commanded to go and make disciples. Pray that God would empower us as a church to faithfully make disciples among people who haven’t yet heard. Pray that we would prioritize our time, money, and attentions to be obedient to Jesus’ command.
- “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns'” (Isaiah 52:7).Pray that God would help us recognize the beauty of bringing the gospel to a people who have not yet heard. Pray that He would give us deep and resonant joy as we obey the command to go and make disciples of all nations. Ask God to increase our joy as those we send report back that we have new brothers and sisters who have become disciples of Jesus, are baptized, and are taught to follow Him.
